Mather (Samuel) is born in Boston.
October 30, 1706
The son of Rev. Cotton and Elizabeth (Hubbard) Mather, Samuel Mather attends the North Grammar School, graduates from Harvard College, and becomes pastor of the Second Church in Boston in 1731. He marries Hannah Hutchinson, sister of the future governor, and moves to today’s Sun Court. Dismissed from the Second Church over doctrinal differences, Mather subsequently founds the Tenth Congregational Church. He dies in 1785.
